Congratulations to ‘IDEA’ in Leeds!

I am just back from a celebration of the 20th anniversary of IDEA: the Ethics Centre, at the University of Leeds. (IDEA stands for ‘Inter-disciplinary Ethics Applied’.)

IDEA was founded by Chris Megone, an old friend from my graduate days, and is now directed by Simon Kirchin.

The centre has achieved a huge amount in its first two decades, in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and in research.

The celebration started with a superb lecture by Prof. Heather Widdows, from the University of Warwick, on the value of ethics. Some of you may remember the excellent inaugural Michael Lockwood lecture Heather gave on ‘lookism’ at our own event in 2023 to mark our own 20th anniversary and the 5th anniversary of our MSt. in Practical Ethics.

Many congratulations to all at IDEA, and here’s to the next two decades!
